Glossary of Knife Terminology

Knife Lock Terms:

  • Race Lock: Patented lock mechanism in the spine of the knife to lock knife blades in the open position.
  • LinQ Lock: Rocker lock mechanism in the spine of the knifeto lock knife blades in the open position.
  • Frame Lock: Part of the knife's frame engages against the blade to lock the knife blade in the open position.
  • Liner Lock: The liner inside the knife's frame engages against the blade to lock the knife blade in the open position.
  • Crossbar Lock: Consists of a spring-loaded, hardened-steel bar in the handle that makes constant contact with the tang and springs forward into place once the blade is opened, wedging itself between the tang and the liner to prevent the blade from rotating shut until it is manually released.
  • Axis Lock; The AXIS lock can be unlocked on either side of the knife, making it a very ambidextrous and lefty friendly knife lock.
  • Button Lock: a locking mechanism that uses a recessed button built into the handle to engage and disengage the lock, allowing for smooth one-handed opening and preventing accidental closure.

  • Grivory: Grivory® is a type of high-performance polyamide, or nylon, that is known for its strength, stiffness, and resistance to heat and chemicals.
  • FRN: Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon
  • TPR: Thermoplastic Rubber
